The Procedure: What to Expect

  2. Treatment – HarmonyCA® is injected with a fine cannula for comfort and precision. The product contains lidocaine (a local anaesthetic) to minimise discomfort.

Pre & Post Treatment Advice

7–14 days before your appointment:

  • Avoid NSAIDs like aspirin or ibuprofen unless prescribed, as well as fish oil, Ginkgo Biloba, St. John’s Wort, and high-dose vitamin E, to reduce bruising risk.

  • If you’re on prescription blood thinners (e.g., warfarin), please inform us in advance.

  • Let us know if you have a history of cold sores (Herpes Simplex). We may be able to prescribe antiviral medicine ahead of time.

  • Skip dental treatments, including cleanings.

  • Reschedule if you’ve been unwell or recently had a vaccination.

  • Avoid other facial or cosmetic procedures in the same area unless cleared by Dr. Natalia first.

  • Review all treatment information and the consent form thoroughly.

24 hours before treatment:

  • Avoid alcohol, as it can increase bruising risk.

  • Avoid sun exposure, extreme heat, and strenuous exercise to minimise swelling and bruising.

  • If prescribed, start taking your cold sore prevention medication.

On the day of treatment:

  • Arrive with a clean, makeup-free face.

  • Provide a full update on any medications or supplements you’re currently taking.

  • Have a small snack or meal beforehand to maintain comfort throughout the appointment.

  • Expect redness, swelling, and tenderness at injection sites, typically lasting 24–48 hours.

  • Mild bruising is common, though it usually resolves within a few days.

  • Occasionally, small nodules may feel beneath the skin; these are often easily massaged out within a few days.

What to Avoid:

  • No makeup for at least 12 hours after treatment to reduce infection risk.

  • Avoid strenuous activity, swimming, saunas, or steam rooms for 24–48 hours.

  • Steer clear of extreme temperatures, such as sun exposure, tanning, or cold environments, for up to 2 weeks.

  • Do not have other facial treatments in the same area for at least 14 days.

  • Apply a cool compress or ice pack to reduce swelling, especially in the first 24 hours.

  • Gently massage any bumps to help integrate the product evenly, as advised by your practitioner.

  • If recommended, schedule a follow-up appointment after around 3 months to assess results and discuss any further treatment.

  • Contact your clinician promptly if unusual or prolonged symptoms occur—especially significant bruising, persistent swelling, pain, or nodules.

We are a doctor-led and patient-centric clinic so Dr Natalia Bratu will be looking after you and will have a full consultation with you to discuss your medical health and suitability, benefits, risks, results and post-treatment expectations.

A small number of people are not suitable for treatment. This can be down to pre-existing medical conditions, Your lifestyle, and current physical condition.

It’s not recommended if you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, have active skin infections, or certain autoimmune/bleeding disorders. Your medical history will be reviewed before treatment.

At your consultation, the doctor may deem you unsuitable for treatment. In the Refine Clinic we do not pressure our clients to go ahead with any treatment until they are ready so there is no problem if you decide to come back another day and take time to consider your treatment options.

You’ll notice an immediate lift thanks to the Hyaluronic Acid, with further improvements developing over the following months as new collagen forms.

On average, results last 18–24 months, though this can vary based on your age, skin quality, and lifestyle.

Most of our patients find it very tolerable. HarmonyCA® contains lidocaine (a local anaesthetic), and Dr Natalia may use additional numbing to keep you comfortable.

Often just one session gives a great result, but we may recommend a review after 3–6 months to see if a touch-up is beneficial.

You may have mild swelling, redness, or bruising for 24–48 hours. These are normal and temporary. Most clients return to normal activities the same or next day.
