So What Happens?

  1. The doctor extracts a small amount of blood.
  2. The doctor will add this blood to a collection tube. The tube contains 2ml of non-reticulated hyaluronic acid. The solution is put into a centrifuge. The centrifuge ensures that only the Cellular Matrix (enriched cells or blood platelets/hyaluronic acid combination) remain.
  3. Platelet Rich Plasma and Hyaluronic Acid are mixed together to make PRP Cellular Matrix, which Dr. Natalia then injects into the skin.
  4. Over time, the enriched plasma & HA  produce younger, firmer, and tighter skin over the recommended 3 treatments.

Pre & Post Treatment Advice

    • Prior to PRP Cellular Matrix the intake of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) must be avoided. 48-72 hours before the treatment. Anti-inflammatory drugs include ibuprofen (Nurofen), mefanamic acid (Ponstan), diclofenac (Difene) and others
    • We always recommend to patients who would bruise easily or are unsure if they bruise easily to take a high strength freshly prepared arnica supplement for a few days before treatment

  • Straight after PRP Cellular Matrix, slight redness, swelling and bruising is possible but usually subsides after a few days.
  • You may have slight bruising on your arm where your blood is drawn.
  • In general, to reduce bruising in this area it is advised to apply pressure to the injection site for 3-5 minutes afterwards.
  • We always recommend to patients who would bruise easily or are unsure if they bruise easily to take a high-strength freshly prepared arnica supplement for a few days before treatment and to keep taking it for 3-5 days post-treatment. You can buy this high-strength (200c) arnica in health shops and homoeopathy stores.
  • Arnica cream is also very effective to bring down any bruising and swelling post-treatment.
  • As with any facial treatment it is advised to stay out of direct sunlight as much as possible and to avoid using any harsh toners or cleansers on the treated area.
  • It is best to avoid strenuous exercise post-treatment as it may cause bruising.

Dr Natalia Bratu will be looking after you and will have a full consultation with you to discuss your medical health and suitability, benefits and risks of PRP and PRP Cellular Matrix and results and post-treatment expectations.

A small number of people are not suitable for treatment. This can be down to pre-existing medical conditions, Your lifestyle, and current physical condition.

At your consultation, the doctor may deem you unsuitable for treatment. In the Refine Clinic we do not pressure our clients to go ahead with any treatment until they are ready so there is no problem if you decide to come back another day and take time to consider your treatment options.

We recommend a separate consultation in most cases with our doctors, to ensure you have an understanding of the different options available to you i.e. there are a number of options available for Facelifting.  The consultation typically takes 20-30 minutes.

The treatment itself will typically take 45 minutes.

You will see immediate hydrating results if experiencing Cellular Matrix PRP. Over the following 3 months, you will also experience the rejuvenating benefits caused by the growth factors in the Cellular Matrix PRP.

For optimum results, we would generally advise that 3 treatments should be taken. ( these can be purchased as a bundle if prepaid. Please see the price list for details) Typically these are scheduled leaving a 4-8 week gap between each treatment.
Thereafter, maintenance treatments are advised every 6 months for maximum sustainable results.

Following a course of PRP injections results will typically last up to 1 year after the first treatment session in most clients. Touch-up treatments may be needed to maintain the desired effect depending on the extent of ageing and skin concerns.

That is no problem at all. Your doctor will take their time with you.  They will go through the treatment and will answer all your questions to reassure you. If you decide not to have treatment at any point, that is also no problem.  There may be other different treatments that you may be more comfortable with if appropriate for the issues or needs you have.

Absolute contraindications:
  • Do not administer the PRP/HA preparation to patients with ascertained hypersensitivity to one of the components, including hyaluronic acid.
  • Do not use on patients with hereditary or acquired hematologic /coagulation disorders such as platelet dysfunction syndrome, critical thrombocytopenia, impaired coagulation or patients suffering from uncontrolled severe metabolic or systemic disorders.
  • Do not treat patients with septicaemia or acute infection in the treatment area.
  • It is recommended not to use the PRP/HA preparation in patients with partial or total knee prostheses.
Relative contraindications:
  • It is recommended not to use the PRP/HA preparation in patients with malignancy, particularly with hematologic or bone involvement and metastatic disease, in the previous 5 years, with autoimmune diseases with the presence of antibodies and progressive (Hashimoto, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, etc), with recent fever or illness and with platelet count less than 100’000’000/ml.
  • Taking medication or dietary supplements which alter platelet function, within 3 days, may affect the effectiveness of the treatment.
  • The safety and effectiveness have not been evaluated in children and in pregnant or lactating women.

It is recommended not to use the PRP-HA preparation with patients with local dermatologic diseases at the site of injection.

  • Blood collection may cause damage to blood vessels, hematomas, superficial phlebitis, delayed wound healing and/or infections, temporary or permanent nerve damage that may result in pain or numbness and early or late infections.
  • When injected intra-articularly, local secondary inflammatory reactions may occur at the site of injection. This may result in temporary pain, feeling of heat, redness and swelling in the joint or area treated with the PRP/HA preparation. Icepack application in the minutes following the injection, or oral analgesic treatment (acetaminophen) the day following the injection may decrease these inconveniences. The intake of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) must be avoided. Following injection with HA, there have also been occasional reports of hyper-sensitivity, including, rarely, anaphylaxis. The administration of HA was also reported to provoke pronounced inflammatory reactions. The injection may lead to infection if general precautions for injection and asepsis are not respected.
