Tear Trough a common concern for patients with Facial Ageing.

Tear trough is a common concern for patients with facial ageing. It is seen as a shadow under the eyes, this gives the appearance of dark circles and can create an unhealthy and/or tired look.  The skin under your eyes is thinner than any other part of your body due to a lack of oil glands which makes it more susceptible to ageing. It also lacks pigmentation making it appear lighter than the surrounding skin, making the blood vessels underneath stand out more prominently.

What causes Tear Trough

The tear trough can be caused by a number of factors, including the loss of fat and collagen in this area over time. In addition to aging and sun exposure, genetics also play a role in determining how quickly skin loses elasticity and becomes thinner over time. They commonly occur with aging or weight loss changes such as pregnancy and childbirth.

Treatment Options for Tear Trough

Tear troughs can be a result of ageing, sun damage, or genetics. There are three treatment options for this concern:

  • Fillers
  • PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma)
  • PRP Cellular Matrix

Filler

Fillers can be used to reduce the appearance of tear troughs by lifting the skin and restoring volume around the eye area.

Tear troughs are often treated using dermal fillers to restore volume back into this area under the eyes. When choosing between these two options, it's important to consider what you're looking for from your treatment: would you like something temporary? Or do you want results that last longer? Most people find that dermal fillers are more effective at filling out their tear troughs—upwards of six months!

PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma)

If you're looking for a quick fix, PRP may be the best solution. It's an excellent option for someone who is experiencing volume loss in the tear trough area, but isn't interested in surgery or other longer-lasting interventions.

PRP uses your own blood to create new collagen and restore elasticity to your skin. After this treatment, you'll notice that your under eye wrinkles are less deep and prominent than before—but the effects won't last forever (about 6 months).

PRP Cellular Matrix

In some cases, fillers or PRP alone may not be enough to correct a deep tear trough. For these patients we recommend adding PRP cellular matrix (dermal filler containing growth factors).  PRP Cellular Matrix is an advanced innovative patented method by RegenLab ( Switzerland). This method combines Hyaluronic Acid (HA)  and PRP in one treatment. Clinical studies show it reduces fine lines and wrinkles by up to 16% in just four weeks.
